School of Apollos 2020

January 27, 2020 - January 31, 2020

$400

School of Apollos is a week set aside for learning to explore the Scriptures, targeted towards those who want to dig deeper in the Word, on a verse-by-verse basis.

Hosea, the Prophet of Hesed: The Covenant Loyalty and Steadfast Love of God

Hosea could be seen as the "John 3:16" of the Old Testament, with its emphasis on God's hesed, or covenant love towards his people. The marriage covenant is on full display through the life of the prophet Hosea and his wife Gomer, and the marriage covenant between Yahweh and his bride, Israel. The sins of the people are grievous, and they have repeatedly broken the covenant with God. Yahweh displays his righteous anger and judgement against their sin, and yet the message of Hope, of love and redemption is repeated over and over again. God will not forsake his chosen people, but constantly pursues them, pleading with them to forsake their lovers, their idols, and return to Him, their one, true love. The love of God is absolutely astounding, giving greater meaning to the words "For God so loved the world" than we can ever comprehend.

SPEAKER

Wes Kavanagh was born and raised in Ontario. His parents were saved when he was very small, and he grew up in a Christian home, attending a Baptist church since he was 3. At the age of ten, he came under deep conviction of his sinful condition, and the Spirit’s drawing led him to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. When he was 12, he surrendered his life to full-time service. While at Bible college, he met his lovely wife Amy, and the two were married in 1995. God has blessed them with four wonderful children: John, James, Sarah and Daniel, whom they have home-schooled since 2003.

In ministry, Wes has a served as a senior pastor, and as a youth and music pastor. He has a passion for church history, and especially Reformed Theology and the Reformation. He firmly believes that this generation is in as desperate a need for reformation as the Church was in Martin Luther’s day. It is this belief and his commitment to the Five Solas of the Reformation that drives his passion for educating 21st century Christians in the great moving of God among the Reformers of the 16th century, and praying for an awakening among Christians today.
